What is classed as a damp Basement?

An underground car park at 75% relative humidity, but which has a few minor damp patches in out of the way corners and also condensation on the walls, may be considered to be dry. Whereas an office, which has no visible dampness at all but has a relative humidity of 75%, may be perceived as being damp, because papers could curl and the occupants would find the atmosphere cloying.

Because of this, different projects need different materials to fulfill their needs. Domestic basements require a higher level of tanking - if your basement gets damp, the chances are that it will filter up through the rest of your house. This can become extremely expensive to repair, so it is worth the extra initial outlay to ensure the longevity of your new home.
